The Decans Who Measured Time Before Clocks

Each night, the soul passed through 12 gates, each guarded by a goddess and a decan. The decans were not myths. They were stellar markers that allowed Egyptian priests to predict the Nile flood to the day, 4,000 years before meteorology. The 36 decans × 10 days = 360 days, plus the 5 epagomenal days for the gods. The calendar was not religion. It was mathematics wearing religious clothing — because in Egypt, there was no difference.
