The Ogham Stones They Couldn't Read
Hundreds of Ogham-inscribed stones were discovered across Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. Christian scholars of the 19th century declared them 'primitive tribal markings' and used them as building material. In the 1940s, linguists proved Ogham is a fully developed phonetic alphabet with grammatical structure — older than the Latin the scholars used to dismiss it. The stones are still in fences.

When the Church found Ogham stones, they called them 'pagan scratches' and used them as fence posts. They were reading a language older than Latin and calling it illiterate.
